Assessing Students with Special Needs Assessing students with learning disabilities can be challenging. Some students, such as those with ADHD and autism, struggle with testing situations and cannot remain at task long enough to complete such assessments. But assessments are important; they provide the child with an opportunity to demonstrate knowledge, skill, and understanding. For most learners with exceptionalities, a paper-and-pencil task should be at the bottom of the list of assessment strategies. Below are some alternate suggestions that support and enhance assessment of learning disabled students. Presentation A presentation is a verbal demonstration of skill, knowledge, and understanding. The child can narrate or answer questions about her task. Presentation can also take the form of discussion, debate or a purely interrogatory exchange. Some children may require a small group or one-on-one setting; many students with disabilities are intimidated by larger groups. But dont discount the presentation. With ongoing opportunities, students will begin to shine. Conference A conference is a one-on-one between the teacher and the student. The teacher will prompt and cue the student to determine the level of understanding and knowledge. Again, this takes the pressure away from written tasks. The conference should be somewhat informal to put the student at ease. The focus should be on the student sharing ideas, reasoning or explaining a concept. This is an extremely useful form of formative assessment. Interview An interview helps a teacher to clarify the level of understanding for a specific purpose, activity or learning concept. A teacher should have questions in mind to ask the student. A lot can be learned through an interview, but they can be time-consuming. Observation Observing a student in the learning environment is a very powerful assessment method. It can also be the vehicle for the teacher to change or enhance a specific teaching strategy. Observation can be done in a small group setting while the child is engaged in learning tasks. Things to look for include: Does the child persist? Give up easily? Have a plan in place? Look for assistance? Try alternate strategies? Become impatient? Look for patterns?   Performance Task A performance task is a learning task that the child can do while the teacher assesses his performance. For example, a teacher may ask a student to solve a math problem by presenting a word problem and asking the child questions about it. During the task, the teacher is looking for skill and ability as well as the childs attitude toward the task. Does he cling to past strategies or is there evidence of risk-taking in the approach? Self-Assessment Its always positive for students to be able to identify their own strengths and weaknesses. When possible, self-assessment can lead the student to a better sense of understanding of her own learning. The teacher should ask some guiding questions that can lead to this discovery.

It is indeed the most central idea in the play. Shakespeare shows us how one flaw in an otherwise normal person can lead to their ultimate demise.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  From the very inception we witness what Lear’s fatal flaw is - his pride. We first see it surface when he decides to divide his Kingdom into three for his three daughters. To claim their share, they must proclaim their love for their father in front of the entire court. Whichever loves him the most will be given the most land. The eldest, Goneril, protests her undying devotion and is given a third of the Kingdom. The second, Regan, does the same and gets another third, but the youngest, Cordelia, is stopped by her honesty. Cordelia does love her father dearly, and knows why her sisters spoke as they did, but is not prepared to take advantage of her ignorant father’s pride simply to bring her land and power. Lear’s reaction to this can be likened to that of a spoiled child and in his fury, divides the rest of his Kingdom between Goneril and Regan, and casts Cordelia away from him. ‘Hence, and avoid my sight!’ A fundamental part of Lear’s mistake is what he expects to hear from his daughters, especially his favorite, Cordelia.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  With Cordelia cast away, he sets about trying to enjoy his old age, but we discover that his two eldest daughter’s intentions are not as entirely wholesome as we once thought. I picked these two seasons, spring and summer because the both of these seasons are items I can compare and contrast, it seems much easier than the two items I picked before the two seasons, these seasons you can very well compare as in the similarities you can do with these two seasons and contrast as well as in the differences between these two seasons. I like both seasons because of what all you can do in these seasons. I go fishing a lot in spring and summer. Its two most popular seasons to go fishing, but you can also ice fish in the winter time. I know this because I like to fish a lot as a woman. Biking is another popular thing to do in the spring and summer. These seasons are very well in weather to pick to go picnicking and to have a lot of fun time with your family. The spring and summer time are the two seasons I most have fun in. The warm part of the spring time and summer, hot times, you can jet ski and have fun with your family or friends. These are the two seasons I love the most because they’re not cold. There are a lot of similarities you can do during the spring and summer time. There is more to do during these seasons, but there are differences between the two seasons. The differences between the two seasons are spring time is a warm time of the year and summer is a hot time of the year. You can’t swim in the spring like you can the summer time because the water is too cold in the spring time. You can ice fish though in the spring time, but not in the summer time, why? It’s still icy in the beginning of spring time and it’s too hot in the summer time. I love the summer time because you can swim most of the time and I like spring to, but not as much as summer because you can’t swim in the spring time. The water is still too cold, but it’s warm in the spring time to just not hot enough to swim all the time. In these two seasons there’re lots of differences, but I believe that there are a lot more similarities. When comparing two items you are showing how they are alike and contrasting you are showing how they’re different. When helping readers understand issues it’s useful to compare and contrast to get them to understand better. Making decisions, narrowing down choices, and evaluating options are also helpful in understanding. You may make a table of some kind or create a list to see what all the items picked have in common or don’t have in common, the differences. You don’t necessarily make the decision yourself or attempt to influence the reader one way or the other when in a comparison-and-contrast paper. Your paper will be a persuasive and a combination of expository writing if you do any of the above things. When I write a paper I like for my readers to enjoy what they are reading, so that they get into the story or paper.
